Make the Most Fun Out of Business Travel

The Super Bowl game was too good to have it ruined by a bad call. Philly is in mourning today.

That is all.

Many of us travel for work or are remote, giving us the opportunity to explore a new place. And sometimes, if we’re traveling for work, the trip is basically free! #Perks

Here are my tips for helping you make the most out of your business trips:

Take some time to sightsee. Don't just do work and then cement yourself to the couch for Netflix and bedtime. There's so much more to explore outside of your hotel room, so go on an adventure after work or during your lunch hour. You won't regret it! See the sights, snap a few pictures, and get immersed in the culture of the place you're visiting.

Don’t just post up at the hotel bar. While the hotel bar is convenient, you won't get to see what the location has to offer. Jump in an Uber and explore other bars, preferably ones that the locals go to, aka→ not the tourist traps. Get to know the locals, try new foods, and go out and experience the nightlife.

Make the most of your rental car. Don't just use the rental car to get to and from your hotel. When I visited Dallas for work, I put miles on that rental car by using it to travel all over the city. Plus, if you don't have to pay for gas, that’s even better! Take the time to drive around, see the city and its surroundings. This is a great way to get to know an area and learn about its history.

Ask to stay the weekend. Negotiate with your employer to see if you can stay for the weekend, hotel and flight included. The flight is an easy change, but it might take more persuasion to get your job to pay for extra hotel nights. However, if you can manage to stay an extra day or two, you'll have more time to enjoy some of the local attractions. So, you might as well ask for what you want. If you don’t ask, then you’ll definitely get…Nada!

Maximize the per diem. Per diem= a set allowance of expenses.💸 When traveling for work, there's usually a per diem that's more than you actually need. So…take that company money and go to a nice restaurant! Just don't go overboard with the 💲💲💲💲. Try to find a restaurant that has unique and local flavors, so you can truly have an immersive experience. This is also a great opportunity to broaden your horizons by sampling different cuisines.

Forget the Company Card - Instead of getting a company card, use your own credit card for all expenses such as flights, hotels, rental cars, meals, and more. Not only will you earn points for yourself, but it's essentially free money if your employer is reimbursing you! This way, you'll get the most out of your credit card rewards and have the most control over what you're spending.
