Schedule Plans Smartly!
Nothing is worse than spending your hard earned vacation time squeezing through an overly crowded, must-see exhibit, feeling like sardines in a can. Taking an extra 30 mins to plan your trip and visits can be beneficial!
1.) Research the Destination’s Seasons
A simple internet search can tell you when the best and worst seasons to visit a particular country are. This includes climate, pricing and tourist foot traffic. For example, when I went to Morocco, I found that the best time to visit was during their autumn season because of the cooler temperatures and decrease in foot traffic. And guess what, the internet was right 🤯
2.) Research your Attraction’s Busy Hours
When you look up an attraction on sites like Google, the site will let you know how busy the location usually is on any given day and time. This has definitely helped me avoid the hordes of tourists with fanny packs and neck cameras!
3.) “If you ain’t first, you’re LAST”
It’s pretty simple… when in doubt, be the first one there! When planning, take into consideration the sites that you’re almost certain will be the most packed and try to knock them out as early in the day as possible. The Louvre won’t have the same level of pedestrian activity as The Musée des Arts et Métiers in the middle of the day!
4.) Avoid the Weekends!
To avoid crowds, plan to visit important sites during the weekdays instead. While most tourists sightsee on the weekends, doing the opposite can help you enjoy the experience without a swarm of people around you. For example, instead of going to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris on a weekend, choose a Tuesday when the multitude of visitors has died down.
5.) Check if reservations are available for popular locations.
Many places have a separate section for reservations, which allows you to skip the line. For instance, in Rome, I only had to wait 15 minutes to see the Colosseum while others waited for hours.
6.) Consider using Fast Pass options.
Sometimes it's worth paying a little extra to skip the line. This can be especially helpful in locations where the currency exchange rate is favorable. Remember, Time Is MONEY! 🤑
Although avoiding the crowds isn’t always possible, these are some tips to think about when planning your next trip. I hope these tips help make your next vacation more personal and enjoyable!
