You Haven’t Been to New Orleans If You Didn’t...
*Disclaimer: There are more things to do in New Orleans than listed below. This is just the bare minimum.
Creole Food
- New Orleans has so much great food that this topic deserves its own email. Once you’re in the city, don’t stop eating. Foods to devour: jambalaya, gumbo, muffaletta, crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, bread pudding, and more.
- Favorite restaurants : Willie Mae’s Scotch House and Dooky Chase
Bourbon Street
- The street that New Orleans is famous for - full of debauchery. Locals will tell you that Bourbon Street is not New Orleans and they are right. However, it’s still worth checking out though. Be sure to go to church and book an appointment with your local therapist after visiting. You have been warned.
Frenchmen Street
- Just north of Bourbon street, Frenchman street is classier and more refined. A great spot for restaurants, bars, and music.
Jackson Square
- A historic park featuring notable landmarks, including one of the oldest cathedrals in America, St. Louis Cathedral. More important, Jackson Square is a great selfie spot.
The Music
- New Orleans influenced Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Hip-Hop American Music. This "must see" is easy to achieve because music is everywhere in the city. Great locations to experience the music:
- Live performance at a bar in Frenchmen Street (e.g. The Maison)
- Preservation Hall
Eat Beignets
- Beignets are fried dough with powdered sugar. Grab them warm and with a coffee. 🍩☕️😋🤤
- Where to go: Café Du Monde or Cafe Beignet
- I’m not going to get into a “religious” debate about which is better. Pick a place and if someone says you went to the wrong one (of course they went to the "better" location)…tell them Andrew said to stop acting like a snob and forward this email to them. 😉
Taste Alligator
- New Orleans is known for swamps so you have to try alligator. I swear that alligator tastes just like chicken. Grab an alligator hotdog at Dat Dog.
WWII Museum
- A different perspective than the other WWII museums because this one is more interactive and it explores the individual stories of those that fought. Be sure to check out the Fighter Plane exhibition.
Exploration Spots:
- Bourbon Street
- Roam around and watch everyone act insane. Yes ppl...Grandmas Get Wild too...😑
- Frenchman Street
- My personal preference. A great place to spend the evening.
- The Garden district
- Check out the house featured in the Benjamin Button movie (2707 Coliseum St.) and famous celebrity houses like Sandra Bullock and Drew Brees.
- Commander’s Palace - Restaurant where famous chef’s like Emerald Lagasse got their start.
