Montreal Travel Guide for the Non-Planner

If you're in the Tristate area like me, Montreal is a great travel destination since it’s close by and has a lot of culture. Montreal is like a mini version of France. t’s a foodie city with a large French influence, so make sure to enjoy the cuisine. I’ve listed only the best places to visit so you have all the essentials. No FLUFF!

Time required to see Montreal: 2 days.

Mount Royal - This is a huge park where you can enjoy great views, go on a hike, and bask in nature. Frederick Law Olmsted, a renowned landscape architect, designed this park and Central Park in New York City. On Sundays, there are Tam-Tam events where people play musical instruments and participate in hippy drum circles.

Notre-Dame Basilica - This place is beautiful and a must-see! I’ve seen many interiors and this one is so breathtaking that it even touched me. Here’s a fun fact; Celine Dion got married here. 

St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal - I enjoyed hearing the story of the church and its origins. Brother André, born Alfred Bessette, devoted his life to caring for the sick and weak. He began with a small chapel and then secured funding for what you see today. It's the ultimate come up story...priest style! And don’t forget about the church’s stunning views…

Underground city - The underground city is an exciting tourist destination. Montreal gets really cold, so why not hang out in an underground mall? 🤷🏽‍♂️It spans 20 miles under Montreal and was designed in the 1960s to allow pedestrians to shop and escape the cold. It includes buildings, malls, hotels, office towers, universities, subway stations, and other prominent locations.

• Poutine - You can't go to Montreal without trying poutine. Make sure to add it to your to-do list!

• St-Viateur Bagel - You have to try the bagels. Montreal is famous for its bagels, so don’t miss out!🥯

• Gibeau Orange Julep - Montreal is also known for its burgers, so this place is a must-visit. 

• Coldroom Speakeasy - Speakeasies are very popular in Montreal and they’re scattered throughout the city. Be sure to check this one out!

Other Areas to See:

• Old Montreal - Just take a stroll and enjoy the picturesque vibe. With its cobblestone streets, charming architecture, and rich cultural heritage, Old Montreal has a lot to offer! 
• Plateau-Mont-Royal - This is a hipster area with many good restaurants and cafes. Go there!
