I'm currently on a train to Rotterdam as I'm writing this. Why are the trains in other countries cleaner, timelier, and cheaper? America, I know there's probably not an easy answer but make it happen!

• Listen to Fado Music - It's the Portuguese blues. I like to go to impromptu Fado venues where the audience can participate and freestyle with the musicians. The more authentic Fado is in the Alfama district. Go to A Baiuca. Other restaurants to find Fado are at Clube de Fado or the Fado & Food Group. 

• Time Out Market - Excellent food market with all types of food. Foodies and picky eaters alike will enjoy it here. 

• LX Factory - A Hipster area with restaurants, bars, and boutique shops. Visit to grab lunch, have a drink, and shop around. 

• Visit Belém - A crash course of Portuguese history in one location (Jerónimos Monastery, Padrao dos Descobrimentos and Belém Tower). It's also the final resting place of famous Portuguese figures (e.g. kings, explorers, writers, and poets.) When finished, get pastries at Pastéis de Belém.  

• Castelo de S. Jorge - A former Moorish castle with views highlighting the whole city. A great spot for selfies. There's also peacocks roaming the castle.
